Today I dropped my unibody 17" macbook pro from about 10 inch off the ground. It was in a carrying bag, but had no protection on the bottom. I checked it out and saw the hinge had moved out of place by about 5mm, meaning the lid doesn't close flush. It closes flat onto the case, but the alignment is a little off and it makes a clicking sound when you open/close the lid. If it got jolted out of place, surely you would be able to snap it back into place again?
It's funny how the only part of the macbook that is broken is made of plastic (the hinge). I never trust plastic products with multiple parts. If it were a PC, It'd probably be in 1000 pieces now.
Anyway, I heard a broken hinge means you need to pay like $1000 for a new case and screen just to fix one hinge, because it's a unibody? That just bulls**t. Any ideas how it could be fixed?
