Since about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?

Same here, I have a June 09 Macbook Pro 15" only two months old. It's making the noise when I open it on both side of the hinge. I going to take it to Apple whenever I have time.

I hate going to the Apple Store as well, they scratched my computer last time I went there.

My cracks all the time, however I dont think its that necessary to get it checked, Id like to save apple some money and let the people with the worse problems get fixed. Its to minor I think, actually my macbook pro is very poorly built but w/e it works and i have apple care

Mine made those sounds, and a close inspection revealed hairline cracks in the clutch cover, Apple replaced it no questions asked.

Thats what i am thinking. I don't mind it in its present state but am kinda taking this on a worst case scenario bases.
