My 17" i5, 8 gig Ram, Macbook Pro (2010) isn't doing so well after the upgrade:

-Freezing constantly (first time ever).
-Mouse is lagging (this is a usb mouse, not bluetooth or wireless)...
-Programs are experiencing latency - i'll click or do some action that will delay several seconds.
-Up to 10 minute start up time.

I upgraded via the Mac Store and am thinking that I should do a clean install but should I do a clean install and then use migration assistant or just manually download stuff all over again?

First, try repairing your hard drive through Disk Utility. If that doesn't work or the disk says everything's fine, then do a clean install. I strongly recommend not using Migration Assistant and just transferring and installing things from your external. Then redownload all App Store apps.

I've done the Disk Utility but a clean install is like, a huge huge huge task.. I'd rather just find the problem. I guess you are right because I've already read all the forums with people having the same problem.

Try disabling dashboard as a space "Mission Control icon under System Preferences". Furthermore, disable "fast user switching". My laptop went from slow lion to fast lion after that.
