MacBook Pro i7 Quad - 1GB of VRAM or 512mb?

Do I need 1GB of VRAM or 512mb if I'm running an i7 quad-core for applications like FCP, Photoshop, etc? I'm trying to find a good used 2011 model and I'm finding plenty with the standard memory. Thanks!
 
512MB is usually enough, most publishers base there applications on the least/minimum specs available on a Mac. 1GB would be better though.
