hi i have a question when i close the laptop to run mac on clamshell mode does the screen stay on???
because in order to run windows on clamshell mode in macbook pro you have to Go to Start> Control Panel.
Bring up more options using the drop down arrow in the address bar.
Select "all control panel items'
Select "Power options"
Select "choose what to do when closing the lid" (it's on the left)
Then change the option 'sleep' to 'do nothing'
which means when you close your laptop the screen stays on and a lot of people say that it over heats to much
but isn't it the same when you go to clamshell mode on mac osx the screen stays on to doesn't it?

I really doubt, because even when working in dual-desktop mode (no mirroring) with screen open, it reverts to single-desktop on external screen in clamshell mode. Or would you suggest it simply turns to screen mirroring?
PS you could emulate closed lid with a small magnet to see.

The "Sleep" or "Do nothing" options are for the laptop itself, not the display.

Sleep = Put the laptop in sleep mode
Do nothing = Keep running

You can tell if the display turns off by looking at the Apple logo on the lid. If it's not lit up then the display is off. The logo is lit by the display backlight.
