I was just wondering, is it possible to power on a Macbook Pro in Clamshell Mode? I noticed when I went to turn off my ACD (with the MBP in clamshell mode), I was asked if I wanted to turn off the computer.

Sorry if this is a dumb/asked before question

Yes, the 'old' and unibody MBPs all work in 'clamshell' mode just fine.
It is all spelled out in the manual.

Unfortunately no. "jared_kipe" is right. the best you can do is hit the power button and quickly close the lid.

I remember a time when all Macs came with a keyboard that had a power button on. I believe laptops back then could be powered on using one of these keyboards, but modern Macs don't recognize the power button for switching on. :(

It was already answered by Jared.

At one point I was a badged engineer for Apple and once I had a walk-thru of the Santa-Clara telephone support facility.

There was a huge banner on the wall that said 'RTFM!'

But once the machine is running just sleep it : Sleep.
FWIW an older KB with a power button will restart an OFF laptop (say older iMac or PowerMac G3 keyboard). Since then I have never used a KB to start an off laptop. I just sleep it and restart when needed.

I guess in this case it would be RTFOP.:D

It's obvious the OP understands the sleep aspect of using the machine in clamshell mode. S/he was just inquiring about powering on from an accidental shut down while in clamshell mode.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I do normally just sleep the laptop so not really an issue in day to day usage.

Thanks again
