Hey all, my 17inch macbook pro is running pretty slow as of about 2 months ago and i dont know why. i still have about 250 gigs left of space so that cant be the problem.Even just opening Firefox or Safari i get that rainbow wheel and it just doesnt do anything for like 5-10 minutes. its driving me nuts! same with opening applications. is there anyway i can clean something up to make it faster? or any suggestions at all? thanks a lot for any help!

Have a look at Activity Monitor (Applications / Utilities /) and select All Processes and sort by CPU to see what the culprit may be.
Also check the "System Memory" tab to see what your "Page ins:", "Page outs:" and "Swap used:" are.

image below uses sorting by CPU as an example
