Hi all,

I have a second hand Macbook pro (mid 2012) i7 - A1286, which I have had for almost a year. When i first got it the battery was duff and it never used to operate unless plugged in.

I went on ebay and purchased an alleged genuine battery. I started having issues with the macbook randomly shutting down, at times I had to reset the SMC in order to restart. I thought the battery could be so had a replacement sent. Same issue.

Aside from this, after use for a few months, the battery is still stuck on a cycle count of 1.

Could it just be a duff battery, or something else? If so, where is the best place to purchase a genuine replacement battery?

Many thanks!

In Canada, batteries sold by Apple repair centres must be installed by the tech.

Many of the batteries on eBay area take regardless of what the sellers says.

I have had good results with Amazon batteries from Ansanor, egoway, Lenoge, and Sloda. They are not as good as the original but they are much cheaper and do the job.
