Hi,
I have a Macbook pro A1150 (about 2007-9). on startup, all goes well, the Apple sign and startup cog, for a few seconds then it's all black like it has shut itself off.

Any pointers of advice please. :(

Well, has it in fact shut off (do you hear the drives spinning?)
Have you tried booting with your installation disk?

RGDS,

Screen

Yes, it has shut down. I try disk mode, Pram and same thing happens.

Well, if you cannot boot from either your HDD or the OSX installation disk, then there are only one straw left to clutch at:
- memory error: if you have access, try to remove one or the other (if you have two chips)

If this does not help, It's off to the nearest Apple Service Provider.

RGDS,
