My job purchased a MacBook Pro Retina Display for me a few months back. Starting two months ago the fan started to kick on like it was trying to become a hovercraft.

I pulled up my Activity Monitor and it says kernel_task is running at 600%.

Our ITS is lost on this one. They don't know what's causing it. They recommended removing Adobe Air, which I did, but it still randomly kicks on and slows everything down. It happens about twice a week. Sometimes it happens several times throughout the day for about 30 minutes. Most of the time it kicks on in the morning before 11 and doesn't stop unless the computer locks and display goes to sleep (kicks right back up when I log back in) or for several hours.

I went to my Console and I get all sorts of messages I can't make heads or tails of. Sometimes it looks like Sandbox is involved somehow, and now it's saying something about massagepackets.

Does anyone have a clue why this is such a persistent problem, and is there a cure other than trashing the thing and getting a new one?
