I am in the UK and recently bought a 2020 MacBook Pro 13” from a seller on eBay who is in the UK too. The MacBook Pro is the custom upgraded version with i7 Quad Core and 32GB ram and came brand new factory sealed in its box.

However, I found something intriguing when I opened the box and found that the MacBook Pro has the American US Keyboard yet the power charger adapter is the 3 pin British UK type. Can anyone advise me if this is normal with Apple that some MacBook Pro models are sold in the UK boxed with American US keyboard and British UK power charger adapter? Please advise.

Might be an odd question, but what makes you think it is a US keyboard?

Because the return key looks different and the $ dollar sign is on the 4 key and there is no key with the £ UK pound sign.

Yup definitely different to my UK keyboard. Sorry, can’t help you though. I would question the seller. Any receipts?

I did contact the seller but he told me that Apple dispatches him both US American and UK British magic keyboard models. Obviously he should of mentioned it on the description but I guess it meant the seller having to break the seal and open the box to check which keyboard it had but I have a feeling he didn’t want to do that.

I was going to see if Apple could swap it out for a UK British keyboard model but it works good and I haven’t ran into any issues with it yet and I’m primarily going to be using it for video, audio and music production only.

Apple won't swap a device you bought from a 3rd party.

I’m not saying he’s wrong, but that’s the first I’ve heard that they would send out a US keyboard. I’m probably wrong, but personally I don’t buy that.

Does the box itself say anything about it being a full UK model?

Edit: and can you even get the £ and € symbols?

I hear it lots that eBay sellers are sending devices with US keyboards but UK plugs, no idea why I am guessing there is a call for them given Apple are sealing them that way. Or are they? Was it an actual Apple seal on the box?

Either way it should not make any difference just inconvenient, I wouldn't accept it :)

Nothing on the box about the region of the keyboard. However, I just looked on the UK Apple Store and apparently you can change the region of the keyboard when upgrading processor, RAM, storage etc before buying. This is probably what’s happened is that US English was selected for the magic keyboard when the seller upgraded the MacBook Pro on the UK Apple Store website hence the reason I got US American keyboard model with UK British power charger adapter with it in the box.

Anyway, it‘s not a big deal because I will be using my MacBook Pro for video editing and music production anyway.

It will be fine, as long as you are happy with it and the warranty cover is showing then all is well.

Okay, I looked at the label on the box (which was also shown on the seller‘s photo on the eBay listing) and the keyboard region is written as ”Keyboard US” but in small writing which is easy to miss.
