Macbook Pro: Late 07 vs Early 08: Help Choose!

I was offered by a friend a late 07 macbook pro or early 08.

The only difference I remember was that the early 08 has the penryn chip and less cache.

So is the late 07 better?

If they are priced the same, there is NO reason why you should go with the late 2007 over the early 2008.

The penryn upgrade extends battery life for about 40 minutes (and marginally faster). Additionally, the early 2008 model also has a multitouch trackpad, whereas the 2007 revision only has the drag scroll (2 finger). Finally, the penryn processors run quite a bit cooler.

The 2007 revision is in no way superior to the early 2008 revision.

you're welcome. But seriously - there really isn't much more to say. This isn't like a debate between the new unibody MBP versus the classic MBP. The two laptops in comparison are physically identical, with the 2008 revision being an upgrade to the 2007 revision. When I say the 2007 revision is in no way superior to the 2008 revision - it is not an opinion - I mean it very literally.

depends on how "upgraded" the 07 model is.

If it is the standard upgrade it has a 2.4ghz merom proc, 160gb 5400rpm HD, 2gb.

Standard base 08 model is 2.4ghz penryn proc, 200gb 5400rpm HD, 2gb.

If it is the case above, then it would be obvious to choose the early 08.

If it is an 07 BTO upgrade (2.6ghz merom) then I would say get the 07, but the odds of the 07 being a 2.6 is EXTREMELY unlikely as it is very rare.

I was talking about the "standard upgrade."

I know the 07 is the upgraded one, but I'm not sure about the 08. I was asking in case the 08 turns out to be the entry one...

Ok, so I'll get the 08 one no matter what. Thanks for all the help!
