My MacBook Pro has been overheating to the point that it is putting itself to sleep. This has been happening for a while now, and it's quite frustrating. I've taken it in to the local shop (I live overseas so it's an authorized Apple retail store, but not an official Apple store). They did a few in-store diagnostics. Concluded that my battery is fine, and that my fans were fine (via SMCFanControl readings).
He didn't want to jump to any conclusions, but said that it's very possible that the problem is my logicboard, because with my fans and battery in working order, and my computer still able to reach temperatures of 100+ degrees Celsius, something must be wrong.
I opted to not send it in just yet because I hadn't backed up all the data I want to retain. Today I was playing and had my MBP go to sleep on me at least 10 times, and got several videos. At one point I left my iPhone recording and got a shutdown 5 and a half minutes into recording, an another one at the 14 minute mark.
This was while I had Steam and CS:S running, Chrome (one tab - not video), iTunes (no music playing), Mail and Quicksilver.
This by the way is running in OS X, not through bootcamp, just want to clarify.
My other problem is not as severe. My DVD drive is rejecting my game discs. I've tried putting in my C&C Generals disc and BF 2142 (both for Mac, not Windows in BC) and they're read as blank after about a 3-5 minute span of time where nothing happens. I popped both discs in my dad's iMac, and both were recognized instantly and correctly. I popped in a House MD DVD into my MBP and it was read instantly.
My guess is the drive is defective and needs to be replaced.
In any case, I'd like opinions on what could be the cause of my overheating problem.
Here are my specs:
OSX 10.6.4
2.8 GHz C2D
4GB DDR3 RAM
320 GB HDD 7200rpm
Running in the "High Performance" GPU setting
The highest temperature I've recorded was 104 degrees Celsius, which was attained by playing CS:S with those other applications open.
