Hello,
I've got a late 2011 macbook pro and I've got an available firmware update (EFI 2.7):
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1499
However, each time it installs, it restarts the computer and then won't come back on. It will show the first loading screen and then, literally, flash off and the screen goes out. From there, it becomes in an endless loop of trying to reboot, but each time it gets to the home screen it freaks out.
When I had Lion installed, when I attempted this, manually powering down the computer did no good and I had to actually re-install Lion. When I downloaded and installed Mountain Lion last night, I thought it might fix the problem and let me install the firmware update, but no - same problem. Luckily though, I didn't have to re-install OS X, manually powering down the computer and turning it back on let me reboot successfully - but the update never installed and is still available.
Not sure if this makes any difference but I've got a new (aftermarket) SSD and replaced the stock RAM as well.
Has anyone ever seen this before when trying to install an EFI firmware update? I'd really like to get it installed or at least make the update go away
Thanks.
