I have a 2007 MBP (Santa Rosa) that won't open unless I take a flat tool in between the screen bezel and the top case and manually remove the latches from their slots.

When the little button on the front of the computer is pressed, nothing happens. I doesn't even 'push in', it just resists, no matter how hard I press.

Has anyone else encountered this problem or have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks a lot!

The only way I can see this even being possible is if A) the hinge was busted or B) the magnet has gone into overdrive. And seeing as the second one is impossible, it has to be the first.

Warranty? No, I assume not. Still, you could take it to an Apple Store and show them the problem. See if it's fixable or not.

Or sell it on eBay and get a new one that will probably be coming out in the next few months.

Yeah, I would run it up to an Apple store, or authorized reseller, and see what they think. That would drive me nuts. Though I have a similar MBP and my latch gives me tons of issues too. Have to open it with two hands, lid won't separate on it's own.
