I have a Late 2007 MacBook Pro 15". There are faint lines going up on the screen. It appears to be some sort of video defect. Any reason why?

As I said the lines are faint. You can only see them in the background. The lines don't obscure the view of the screen. So it would be hard to get a picture. Sorry.
Are you talking about that goal post looking thing in the middle of your screen? If so, I think it warrants a call to Apple even if it is out of warranty. I just recently had my MBP 17" repaired by AppleCare just out of my warranty. Just be courteous and you'll be off to a good start.
I have a early 2008 15" macbook pro that has just recently got strange line on the center of the screen! Ah an yes it out of warranty! This to me is a manufacturing defect and I am very unhappy, this laptop cost me over £1500!!!!!

I though it was due to the keyboard/trackpad, but the blurred lines don't line up with keys or trackpad, and it has a more rounded affect?

Hmm. I'm guessing water damage, which isn't covered. Of course if there is none, then you'll be fine.
