MacBook Pro Logitech X-230 Audio Issue

So I decided to connect my Logitech X-230 2.1 Sound system to my MBP. Under Sound Preferences, for "Select a device" it lists headphones- not external speakers or whatever its supposed to be. Why is this? Is there anyway to change it, because the audio coming out is horrible compared to when I connect it to my Windows Desktop. Thank You.
