MacBook Pro - loud fan and keyboard/trackpad won't work.

Just wondering if anyone could help with a few problems I've been having.

Basically I was using my Mac and it froze so I closed the lid. When I opened it again the fan was much louder than normal. It was still frozen and wouldn't respond so I switched it off from the power button. Then I turned it back on, but it wouldn't boot past the grey screen and the fan was still loud. I read some threads here and it said to boot it in safe mode using Shift, I did that and now I'm at the log in screen.. However now the keyboard and trackpad aren't responding and the fan is still loud. Any ideas what could be wrong? If I get an external usb mouse and keyboard, any advice on what to do from there?

I'd reset the PRAM (instructions), and reset the SMC (instructions).

I reset the PRAM and it booted up and brought me to my home screen, but the keyboard and trackpad still don't work. The keyboard did light up though.

I shut it down and tried to reset the SMC, but it hasn't seemed to work and I'm back to the same white/gray page as before.
