Hey,

I've just got from my company a new M1 Pro MacBook.
As a Monitor I use an LG 4k with USB-C.

Works everything fine so far. But if I the display of the MacBook is folded down (I use only my external monitor), the display will not connected , after I looked the Mac and the Screen went off.

If I click after a few seconds a second time, the Mac connects to the screen. It also works perfectly fine (with one click) if the MacBook screen is not folded down.

With my old Mac (2015) I never such issues. I heard from colleges in my company that they have the sam issue.

I didn't found anything in the Internet about this issue. Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me with my 13" M1 MacBook Pro on a CalDigit TS3+ and it is still happening with the 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro I am now using. It also happens with all of the 3 monitors (different manufacturers) I have access to. One key press or mouse click wakes up the dock and then I need to press a key two or three times more to wake the screen. So yes, it is a common issue and I have a bug report open with Apple since March 2020. No response from Apple so far.
