Hey guys I bought the pro for mainly light work loads. I got it for the same price as the Air and I prefer the Touch Bar and overall form factor of the pro. My question is tho, how often does the fan turn on? If I use it on the sofa or in bed, or it’s on charge, am I going to hear it? Right now my MBA 2019 (now going to a family member) is often spinning up.

Hmm, still not convinced. My MBA just updating it would cause the fan to spin up.
You can’t compare the M1 to Intel in this regard. Intel just runs way hotter. The M1 is very cool. The M1 MBA has the exact same chip as the M1 MBP and has no fan at all. Mine barely even gets warm even under a load. A lot of the M1 MBP reviews even show that’s it’s quite hard to get the fan to come on.

What FuturePilot said.

I had my 2019 MacBook Air for a week after getting the M1 MBP before the trade-in box arrived. I ran some tests just for fun. The fan on the MBA would kick on for even minimal Lightroom editing tasks.

My MBA M1 never seems to heat up no matter what I seem to use it for. I would imagine if I had the MBP, I would never have the fan come on.

Had a 2018 MBA, fan came on very audibly under any sustained use (web browsing, video call, or updating). You can reformat and reinstall MacOS on an M1 Pro 3x , and it barely got just slightly warm and no I didn't hear the fan at all, if it even came on...

Never heard my M1 MBP fan turn on, and I've had this machine for over a month now. Ran benchmarks, played games, video editing, multitasking with several apps, I got nothing..

My old 2011 MBP will turn its fan on as soon as I log into Facebook.
