Same thing happened to me. With my M1 2020 MBP thankfully I was within my 14 Day Apple return period. They offered to replace it. But I said if they are this defective just give me a Full refund. And they tried to say I had already started the repair process. And I said No. I wanted a Full refund and they did it.

I doubt he is within his return period. And the fact he isn't asking Apple to repair leads me to believe the damage is accidental user caused.
