Wondering if anyone can help me out...I'm relatively new to the Apple world. I have a rMBP 15" and every once in a while it will make the Tri-Tone Sound.m would anyone know why it would do something like that? I'm sure it's some kind of notification, but I can't figure out what it is...

As always, thanks in advance for the help.

Tri tone? As in occasionally three beeps on startup/cold boot?

Normally that would indicate a RAM failure I think. I'm sure another poster can clarify or confirm.

Macs will make the tri-tone sound when a download finishes, or something installs, sometimes.

Not on start up or boot. It's just random here and there. Not always...but like I said it will just make the noise. Tri Tone is the name of the ringtone on the iPhone. It's the only way I knew how to describe it...lol.

Would there be something downloading in the background that I wouldn't know about? Or if an update was available on an app?

Is there a place to go to see what has been updated most recently?

I had the same thing happening back in May when I first bought my MBP. I was thinking it was the seagate external drive making the noise because it was new. I think I traced it to an app on my phone but I can't remember. I no longer hear that noise.

Do you have an iPhone by any chance?
Yes, the App Store does tell you the most recently installed apps in the updates section.
I do have an iPhone, but could it be something like the Antivirus being updated or maybe another program?

It could be continuity? Text messages from your phone being pushed to your laptop. Software being updated or installed is also one possibility.
