I was curious to see my MBP's manufacture date

The coconut program claims its January 2011

This website http://www.chipmunk.nl/cgi-fast/applemodel.cgi claims its July 2011

Which do I believe? Does anyone know a good site for decoding your serial number? Not sure which number points to your manufacture date.

I did some extensive googling on this but was overwhelmed with answers that did not work

coconut battery has been known to be inaccurate in reporting the manufacture date.

One suggested method is this, which seems to be accurate:
Use the serial number to determine the build date. The first two characters are a code that indicates the factory where the computer was made. The third character is the build date year. It is only a single digit. The number five, for example, would indicate a build date year of 2005 unless the computer is obviously very old, in which case it would indicate 1995. The fourth and fifth characters in the serial number indicate the build date week of the computer. The number 49 would indicate that the computer was manufactured in the second week of December.

Thanks :) Yeah that didn't work for me because my serial number starts with one letter, and then the third number is a 2 so that would be 2012!

But thank you!

Edit: I'm going to post the numbers of my serial number just incase anyone can decode those! (not sure if its safe to post the whole thing)

X02X10XXXXXX

Tried that one too! Couldn't even give me a date haha

I wonder if I call Apple and ask, if they can give me that sort of information. Now its just one of those situations where I NEED to figure this out for because I've been looking for so long!
It is strange that your serial number doesn't match known patterns. It could be that Apple changed the serial number format for more recent models, and the sites we've been talking about haven't caught up.

You certainly should be able to enter your serial number to get warranty information on your Mac here:
https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

And you should be able to get tech specs based on your serial number here:
http://support.apple.com/specs/

Once I talk to Apple tomorrow I'll post back here for anyone else who has similar issues in the future and are curious

Thankfully my serial number did work on the support pages

And hopefully they can just tell me straight up on the phone about it :)

Thanks for that link!

I'm wondering if they changed again from that format though, as mine is

C02X10XXXXXX

(the Xs are obviously other letters)

From what I can see though it seems like the information on that site is still pretty relevant as I noted a few common letters in there consistent with what the website said
