Macbook Pro mid 2010 not starting

I was browsing the web when my mac just restartet. I then got this picture up:

When the bar is full the mac just turns off again. I have tried to turn it on again 10 times with the same result - it keeps loading and then turns off.

Any idea whats wrong? Is it dead?

I have no experience in Mac troubleshooting.

I would try to start it with the option key down and try to boot on the recovery partition. There you could use disk utilities to check the disk.
If the disk is good, you can restore from a time machine backup.

If booting on the recovery partition, I think you can boot on the Mac OS Snow Leopard that came with your Macbook using the option key also.
