Hello forum,
I am a UK based MacBook Pro user and am glad to have found this forum to ask some advice.
I have a mid 2012 15-inch MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7. I upgraded to an SSD a couple of years ago and have not had any previous issues with the computer. Over the last couple of months it has started randomly going into sleep mode, sometimes during use and sometimes while idle. The behaviour is unpredictable - it could happen once or twice a day to upwards of 20 times or more. Having Googled the issue for advice I tried the following; initially setting Energy Saver preferences on both battery and power adapter to "Never Sleep", ensuring the area is clear of any magnets, resetting PRAM and SMC several times, clean install of Catalina (but am fairly sure I had this problem before first install of Catalina). None of these have made any difference to the behaviour. No data is lost and I can wake it after a few seconds and carry on where I left off. However any internet connections are cut and with working from home at present it is not reliable enough for online meetings. The only diagnosis I have found online that seems similar to my issue is a logic board failure (?voltage drop for some reason). I would be grateful to know if anyone has experienced anything similar or has any thoughts. Am currently weighing up repair costs vs cutting losses and new MacBook Pro.
Many thanks.
