Hi just looking for some advice my daughter has a MacBook pro mid 2012 same as me now I've upgraded my one to a 1td ssd and 16 gig ram my daughter has just started collage on a programming course her MacBook is bog standard run 4 gig ram and 512Hardrive which she is finding a bit slow now so im going to upgrade her to a ssd 512 and was wondering would 8gig of ram be enough for her needs or should i go with 16 or would that be a bit of over kill she is using a program call Brackets which is a programming software

Definitely put in an ssd and enable trim.

Is your use similar to your daughter's use?

If you are not taking advantage of the 16 gb in your machine, you could put your ram in her machine and you go with 8.

If the price difference between 8 and 16 is small, go for the 16.

8gb of RAM will probably be fine, but what she REALLY needs is an SSD (if it doesn't have one).
