Hi,

My Macbook Pro Mid 2012 has developed a fault. if any experts on here is able to give some advice.

My Macbook starts up fans spin like normal but sleep stays solid no chime no screen no external screen no caps lock no water damage has occurred.

If you keep trying like 100 attempts through out the week it will eventually work like normal until you turn off again then same problem occurs above

I have cleared nvram , smc with key combination, change memory,

please let me know views

I suggest booting as follows:

  1. disconnect all peripherals;
  2. disconnect battery;
  3. use 1 ram module at a time;
  4. disconnect keyboard.

Hopefully, 1 of these will work.

already disconnected everything and still the same. it is really weird fault could it be bios ? but sometimes it comes so i don't think it can be bios.

I'll bet it's the SATA ribbon cable that connects the internal drive to the motherboard.
This is a COMMON "point of failure" on the 2012 non-retina MBP.

It's a cheap and easy replacement/fix, and ANYONE can do it.

Go to ifixit.com to see what's involved and get the part number.
You can order the replacement cable from them or buy it elsewhere online.

BE SURE TO ALSO BUY THE RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE JOB.
You'll need a Phillips #00 driver to take out the screws on the back of the MacBook.

Again, if the MBP keeps "failing at boot", or "locks up" when running, this could be the ribbon cable. It can fail "intermittently" --- that is, communication is lost between the drive and the motherboard, and when that happens, bang! Nothing works.

One other thing...
Have you thought about replacing the original platter-based hard drive with an SSD?
They're cheap and you'll see how easy it is to change out when you have the back off.
Don't buy "the fastest" SSD -- a basic one from Crucial or Sandisk will work just fine.
You'll need a TORX T-6 to "take the nubs" off the sides of the old drive and move them to the new one.

Would the ribbon cable cause a black screen and prevent loading the EFI from the logic chip?

I have worked on many of the 13" and 15" non-retina mid-2012 Pros and have never had a ribbon cable prevent booting.

You can try to boot with usb if you have one available with MacOS or Live Linux or even DVD in your case. Then you can check if the system recognizes the internal disk.
