I lug my MacBook back and forth to work in a backpack. Earlier this week it developed a charge problem. I rarely turn it off and only need to charge every day or so. I simply close the cover when I'm not actually using the machine. The charge became depleted. I plugged in the charger at work. I rarely pay much attention to the charge, it just happens. However, when I returned it wasn't charging. I checked the power to the charger, plugged and unplugged both the charger at the wall socket and at the laptop. It still didn't charge. No problem, I have two chargers at home. Once home I tried again, still no charge. I inspected the plug at the laptop and didn't notice a problem visually. It just wouldn't charge....

However, before I went to find an Apple Store, I looked at the laptop socket and plug closer with my magnifiers. The plug was very slightly cocked in the socket. I removed the plug and looked at it. No problem. I looked into the socket. It was slightly discolored. I looked very closely with a light. A very tiny eyeglass screw was magnetically held below a couple of the socket pins. It was so small and thin it was hardly noticeable, just enough to cross a couple of pins.

I used a pencil tip to remove the screw. Everything is once again fine.
