no way apple would place a button such as that in plain site. i personally think it's the iToaster connection, but i could be wrong. it has happen once before.:D
 
I doubt Apple would put a huge battery release button right in the front / side of the Macbook when most of the general public never even remove the battery... ever. Its not like every hour or so you are popping out and switching batteries -- unless of course they made the battery life horribly bad and you now are going to have to. :(
 
They offer the most reasonable explanation. The button wouldn't need to protrude or have texture. It would be flush and blend with the aluminum and pressing it in 2mm would release battery.
 
That is too tacky of a location for such a button.

In my opinion, i would say it would be more tacky to have a port and therefore a cable hanging out in that location, its so far away from the other ports which is odd.
