I have an older macbook pro G4 from 2003-4. The monitor started fluxuating in and out when I would open and close it. Now it just stays dark. I was able to open and see my hardrive from my wifes computer when I firewired it. So I know every thing else seem to be just fine.

Is this a costly repair and is it possible to do it myself?

Macbook pro

I guess it isn't that old.
It's a 17 inch without the intel.
Is the ribbon difficult to replace?
You think a novice could do it?
