I just got a new macbook pro last week... i've noticed that when it's on, it'll occasionally make a soft high pitched noise. Almost like a "whirling" sliver of a noise (haha, i have no idea how to actually describe it!!). Can anyone tell me what this might be??

Also, What does the fan sound like? my laptop stays cool even after 2 hours of being used on carpet... is the fan quiet or is mine just not coming on?

my last apple was an 2005 ibook... so this is quiet an upgrade for me. Im still learning about all the new features!! :p

Thanks in advance!!

The sound could be the HD or fans.
Get iStat to see what your fans & temps are.
Running your MBP directly on a carpet is not a good idea, as this could cause overheating.

Does it come from the upper left corner of your notebook and does it go away/change when you launch photobooth?
If yes, it's just the processor ilding.
Totaly normal.
