okay so i buy this used macbook pro, and i use it for about two weeks, everything seems to be working fine. and then i wake up one morning and boot the computer and the keyboard starts going completely insane, zooming in and out, copying files and reacting to my input completely randomly when it reacts at all.

so i've hooked it up to an external USB keyboard and i've been jamming econo because i can't afford to be without it right now! with the external, it seemed to be functioning normally at first, but now i'm getting a few really odd buggy errors:

1)it won't go into sleep mode. when i try to manually put it into sleep mode by clicking on the toolbar, it goes to sleep for just a moment and then the hard drive whirrs back into action and it wakes up. if i close the laptop then i can hear it sleep for a second and then i can hear the hard drive spinning every few seconds, trying to wake up. needless to say, i've been shutting it down when not using it.
2)when i click on one of the icons on the bar at the bottom of the screen, to start firefox for instance, instead of immediately opening the application it pulls up either the "finder" screen with the app i'm trying to start, or in the case of firefox pulls up a window where i would theoretically drag it into my apps folder. after it pulls up this window, it starts the app, but i don't remember it pulling up the "finder" windows before i started having keyboard problems
3) sometimes my firefox will open up new tabs for things that don't seem to be deserving of new tabs. for instance, if i have my gmail account open, and then i click "inbox" to refresh my inbox it will open the inbox in a whole new tab so presto i have two tabs running gmail. when it's doing this it's pretty much unusable because every link or refresh opens up a new tab. if i restart my computer, usually it will stop this monkey business and i can browse normally. but then when i'm least expecting it, the problem returns!

these seem like really weird problems to this novice, does anybody have any ideas or suggestions? do you think the problems are related? what can i do? i've mainly just used itunes and firefox, who knows what other strange issues are happening with other software? I spent what is a pretty good chunk of change for me on this 2 year old computer and it seemed to be working perfectly when i first got it--I hope my investment isn't completely down the drain!

Thanks so much for any help this forum can provide!
