I just updated my MacBook Pro to macOS Sequoia 15.4. In display settings it only shows built in display, no option for external display. I have already restarting the system, tried unplugging external cord and plug back in but still does not give me the option. I did just order a USB C to HDMI adapter and see if that makes a difference. Not sure if I need to do any additional updates. Looking for help

So far, it works fine for me with two different Dell monitors (3224KB and UP2720Q), all connected with Thunderbolt cables.

Usually, when a new device is connected, Mac would ask for permission first. The behavior can be changed in Settings => Privacy & Security => Accessaries. You can change the option to "Always allow" and see if that makes any difference.

in privacy & security I do not have an option for accessories?

In the Display settings page, hold down the Option key. That should change the Night Shift button at the bottom right to a Detect Displays button. Press it to see if it detects the external display.

Try powering off your monitor. Then turn it back on.
Restart the MacBook.
Then connect the Mac to the display again.

What's your MBP model? Not sure if the option is available on older Intel based models.

The option is available on my M1 MBP and also newer models.
