MacBook Pro not recognizing external Lacie d2 dvd drive

Hey guys,

Having a bit of trouble with my lacie d2 drive it's not being recognized by my MacBook Pro. I've looked in the System Profiler under Firewire and all I get is:
FireWire Bus:

Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec
I've downloaded their DiscRecovery as well and to no avail did it work.
I'm running 10.4.11 and this is my only means of an optical drive, the one in the macbook is dead.

Any ideas?
 
Have you tried connecting it via USB ? (I'm assuming it has USB from the product page I pulled up online.) Do you have other FireWire devices to test with that port? What steps have you taken to troubleshoot?

The dvd drive is Firewire only but no I do not have any other firewire devices to try. Could it bee the firewire connection because isn't there a difference between 400 and 800?
 
FireWire is backwards compatible. If you connect a FW400 drive to a FW800 port, the drive will work at FW400 speeds (I believe). I would first check the cable. Try a different one and see if that solves it. Otherwise, if at all possible, try connecting it to a different computer.

Yeah I'll get another cable to test it out. I only own a macbook pro so this is my only computer.
 
Bad news, I bought a new firewire and no luck. Still not seeing anything new n the Firewire section under the System Profiler. Any ideas?
 
I don't know if this will apply to your situation, but, LaCie has a history of the power supplies going bad on their external hard drives. When this happens the power light on the drive will light, but the drives are non-operational. Replacing the power supply usually returns the drive to an operational state.
 
Unfortunately this is my new power supply. I had a dysfunctional one replaced by Lacie's support.
