MacBook Pro not recognizing USB.

I have a 17' MacBook Pro and when I connect my PNY 8gb USB it does not recognize it. It only recognizes it if I boot the Mac with the USB already connected. How can I fix this?

you tried booting into safe mode, then trying the usb?

Start it up without the usb in there this time.

It still isn't reading it if I connect after its been booted.

try resetting the uhhhh.... what's it called smd or something. It controls fans etc. I'll look it up.
