My Macbook Pro 13" (late 2009) takes 15-30 min to start up. There's also a grey progress bar at the bottom on the first grey screen. When it finally boots up, all the icons show up. When I open Safari, I get the rainbow spinner, on the whole screen (not just in Safari). This has never happened before, and nothing new was installed since it was working fine this morning? Any ideas on what is going on?

That sounds like a failing hard drive. If you have a backup, do it ASAP. There is no reason it should take that long to boot.
