This makes perfect sense, as 2021 was where they introduced the mini-LED backlight. It's presumably the dimming of the LEDs that's causing the response time lag

All these miniLED panels are awful. The response times now are even worse than 2021 models, probably something to do with display controller lowest bidder. The 2021 M1 Pro 14" had a 50ms response time and the 2024 are in the 70's...like wtf.

Dammit. I just came back from the store, and the display model numbers were iterated up from the prior generation (most M3 Pro display models were A04E and the ones I checked today were A05E). It made me hopeful that there were improvements with pixel response, but based on this, probably the only difference is the SDR brightness.
