I do a lot of video editing with FCPX and my 2012 Macbook Pro is not cutting it anymore. I was set on getting a new Macbook Pro but realized since I have an iPad Pro I could use that for mobile stuff and just get used to editing at my desk with an iMac (Whenever the 2018 comes out) and save 1k.... but now I realized I have zero knowledge on the graphics cards and don't know if the new 2018 13" Macbook Pro with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 compares to the standard Mac one. I see graphs that compared numbers but I don't quite know how that translates.

The integrated graphics in the 13" MBP is a lot less powerful than the 570 in the iMac, about 3-4 times as fast. I don't use FCPX so I don't know how much it'll affect the performance. Based on what I read it's not as important as the CPU or the SSD speed in FCPX.

As for using the iPad instead of a MBP I think you should try to do it for a while first to see if it really suits your usage. It's often surprising how much we need a full OS sometimes.
