I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Today a friend of mine gave me the oppertunity to buy his MBP 17" 2.66GHz 4GB Ram for 1200... i thought it was a steal living in canada, So i picked it up.

Now i'm wondering what to do. because i don't have a budget to keep everything.

With an already killer intel i980x/5970 Desktop and a Asus UL80VT

My options are: Keep MBP sell Asus Laptop and iPad, or just flip the MBP for around 1500 make 300 bucks and carry on.

If you were in my position what would you do!

thanks guys i'm new to this whole mac stuff

You can do a lot more with the MacBook Pro than you can with the iPad. I think that keeping the macbook Pro would be the best mix of pros and cons.

Those two are two totally different equipment. Personally after owning the iPad, I'd go for the macbook pro as you can do a whole lot more. Also after the honeymoon period of the iPad, you'd miss getting a Macbook Pro.

Sell the Asus UL80VT and keep both the iPad and the MBP. You should probably trade in the Dell for an iMac while you're at it as well!
:D

Getting something from a friend for a good deal because you are friends and flipping it is probably one of the lamest things someone could do.

Depends on what you'll be using either one for but the mbp is going to be more versatile since it's a full computer versus the iPad.

Get a MacBook Pro...I bought an iPad thinking I would use it a lot more, I barely touch the thing now. For what I do, I would much rather be using a full computer.

Also, OP, the answers here will be a bit one sided because you posted it in the MacBook Pro forum. If you had posted this in the iPad forums, you'd get it one-sided towards the iPad.

why not stay at the current situation.
u can game and do heavy work on DESKTOP
do some other works which ipad can not do on your asus
having fun and web experience on your ipad.
unless you like the style of MBP or the osx, then you could sell your asus and either buy a MBP 13" or from your friend.

They stated that in the OP.

i would definitely go with keeping the macbook pro, so much more you can do with the Pro but honestly it comes down to your personal choice.

agree 100%, I went 13 MBP>>>iPad>>>>13 MBP (or I will have when it arrives in the next couple of days.

I dont know why people are overlooking the obvious...you have kind of redundant systems. A desktop and 17" fall into the same deskoptish category and the Asus and MBP are also similar in use. The ul80 is a 14.1" correct? It seems like the UL80 is in a class of its own as a "portable" laptop...and that is something that might be important for you. It seems like you should either get rid of the macbook pro or the desktop as only one of those will be sitting at your desk for the majority of time. Now if you find that the UL80 is too big for your tastes and needs on the road, then I would consider the ipad.

That is what I would do anyways.

So I"m confused.

You bought a MBP from a friend, a nice one at that, for a good price, yet now your having buyers remorse and deciding you can't afford it?

I mean you knew at the time that you could or couldn't afford it I'd imagine.

If I were you, keep the two apple products, sell the PC, game over.

An iPad is a nice device for surfing and reading in the bedroom and it's also nice to play games (like Plants vs Zombies) on it that were designed to take advantage of the multi-touch interface.

It's not a replacement for a real computer like the MacBook Pro, though.

I'd probably keep the MacBook Pro and the iPad and sell the rest. But that's just me.

Macbook Pro all the way.The ipad is great if you travel and surf the web, but limited as far as storage and what not.
