Im in need of a new laptop
I will use it mainly for photgraphy and video
I do alot of editing and need alot of space for photos
what do you guys recommend i need something that will be fast and wont slow down when im editing im new to macs so what do you guys recomend my budget is 500-1000

The prices of Apple laptops go as follows:

MacBook >= $999
MacBook Pro >= $1199
MacBook Air >= $999

As you can see, for <=$1000, you can get the base model of MacBook or MacBook Air. However, both of them are not very powerful machines. If the MacBook is to be updated with the price remains the same, it might be what you are looking for.

If you can pay a little more, you can get a 13" MacBook Pro at $1199.

can I add a third category??

A Mac-mini possible?

Your budget won't get you far in the Apple notebook area.

*** If you want to look at it from a "technical" view, the mac-mini itself is very portable.

As other posters have said $999 won't get you far with a Apple Notebook. But the rumor is that tomorrow Apple will release a new Mac Book Air for $999 that will have 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD. If extend your budget you could purchase an external hard drive and have plenty of room to host your photos. The new Mac Book Air will be plenty powerful enough (as is the 2010) to edit photos. Good luck!

Try looking at the Aluminum Macbooks from 2008 to 2009 on ebay, they go for around $850. Or just look on craigslist for deals on Macbook Pros.
