Hi,
At the moment my macbook pro has started overheating. I do use Final cut pro quite a lot, so I can understand why its getting so hot, though sometimes it seems to get really hot when Im not doing much... but I was wondering if first of all, its normal, like is it bad for my computer? and secondly, is there anything I can do about it?
Thanks

What do you mean overheat? Is it shutting down?

Download an app that can report the actual temps like iStat Menu or iStat pro

FCP is an intensive application so its normal to see the temps to rise. Too hot can be considered subjective so documenting the actual temps will be helpful.

As the temps increase do you hear the fans ramping up? If not try resetting the SMC

yeah the fans go on and everything slows down a bit... I dont actually know how hot it;s getting, guess Ill download one of those apps...
but what puzzles me is the fact that it sometimes seems to get hot while only playing music or something like that...

A couple folks have noticed that the assembly workers did a shoddy job of applying the thermal compound between the CPU/GPU and the heat sink. I'm going to re-apply the compound on my (and my wife's) MBP's, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart, as you have to remove the logic board.

Something to think consider.
