Macbook Pro palmrest compatibility

I need to buy a new keyboard/palmrest for my 17" macbook pro with a silver keyboard. I was wondering if the palmrest is proprietary to its specific model/year/speed computer. Is the cable that connects to the logic board the same connection? I know the keyboard is proprietary to a specific model computer/palmrest.
