I have the 17 inch MacBook pro...just got it yesterday.

Right now, it will not boot passed the white screen with the apple logo.

I inserted the OSX CD and booted from the CD by holding C... now I guess I'm installing OSX onto the HD again to see what happens.

This problem occurred after my thumb drive was acting up. When I put in the thumb drive, and then start transferring files into the thumb drive... the little progress window would freeze up. I could not force quit, as you can't force quit "Finder" for whatever reason. So I had to do a restart by holding down the power key. Again, same thing happened and I had to do the power key reset.

Eventually, the Macbook would not start up and would only start on the white screen with apple logo.

Right now I booted from the CD, and I guess I'm installing the OS again...

Does anyone know what the problem could be or if it's a hardware fault?

Thanks!

After I reinstalled the OS, it works. All my files are still there.

Is there a way I can run some sort of check up on my computer to see that the software and hardware are good?
