Hey guys,

Long time lurker here. I purchased the early 2008 MBP and Apple Care just recently ended. A couple weeks ago, I got a prohibitory sign at startup. I tried everything including using Time Capsule to restore my computer to an earlier date only to have it crash a couple hours later. I am fairly certain my internal hard drive is the problem.

So replacing the hard drive is next on my list. However, I have never done this before. How do I pick out a compatible hard drive? Could I consider an SSD drive? Will my computer have any issues installing the new hard drive?

Now that my computer is over 3 years old, should I instead consider updating my computer now with either a new MBP or MBA? I need a new computer for school ASAP and it might not be prudent to spend all my time trying to fix up this computer that already has a limited life on it. I have always been frustrated with the battery life on this thing anyways.

Any advice helps. Sorry for grammar mistakes as I am typing on my iPad.
