Greetings,

I just had my MacBook Pro crap out. Its sad, but I am due for an upgrade. Long story short I am stuck between the $1,800 & $2,200 models. I'll be doing a lot of office work, ingesting video (mostly from canon's), limited basic fcp editing and limited basic Photoshop editing. I'm part of a two man production company, so random task are part of life.

The key differences for me between these models is the
-512mb vs 1gb video car
-2.3 ghz vs 2.6 ghz processor

Is the $400 price difference worthwhile in my case or will these be noticable upgrades a year down the road?

I don't think they will be too much of a difference, as long as you're not playing games or doing extensive video editing.

The practical approach would be to put that $400 towards a new machine a few years down the road, as it's a significant amount of the initial investment.

You should think about the 1gb vs 512MB option. For the processor, go for the 2.3 because the performance gains are minimal.

Thanks for your feedback. The input helped and I think I know the route I will go.
