I need more capacity for my music library. Is it a good idea to software RAID 0 two Samsung 1TB 9.5mm drives in my 2011 15" MBP? I'll be making regular back ups of course and i don't need bootcamp.

Also, is the optical drive connection standard SATA?

What is the point?
You don't need any such kind of speed for Music. I wouldn't take the downsides of a stripe set for a speed increase I don't need.

Of course it is standard S-ATA what else do you imagine it could be?

Read my first sentence. I just want to be able to have my entire library internally. Speed in not a consideration, apart from being unable to install a SSD.

A 12mm 1.5tb drive would solve my problem for now, but they don't exist.

I've never seen a SATA optical drive before. The laptop PATA ones i've seen don't seem to have a normal connector.
