Macbook Pro RAM (2.33Ghz core2duo 17")

I am looking to upgrade the ram in my 2 year old 17 inch Macbook Pro. Crucial states that the max is 3GB, but has anyone tried putting 4GB in theirs?

I put the 4 gig kit into mine. System profiler will recognize all 4 gigs installed, but the system is only capable of utilizing 3.
