Hey,

Just wondering if anyone could give me a hand. I have a 2012 Macbook pro and I've just ordered a 2015 retina model. What I'm wondering is can I take the 16gb of DDR3 Ram from my 2012 model and swap it with the 8gb of LPDDR3 Ram in the 2015 model. My plan was to switch the RAM of both macbooks and sell the old one on. The question is... are the compatible with each other?

Any help would be much appreciated.

No all RAM has been soldered into the retina MBP's since the 2013 models. You have no RAM upgrade options on the MBP you have to buy with the specification you require its that simple.

It is best to think of the retina MBPs (2012/2013 and later) as non-upgradable. As mentioned earlier, the RAM is soldered on, and swapping for a bigger hard drive is costly and experimental.
