I recently purchased some ram (G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)). When I install both sticks I get the no memory installed POST beep as well as when I install them individually. However when I install one upgrade stick with one factory, it works perfectly and picks it up as 6GB of ram installed. Is there any way to change the ram settings on a Mac to manually slow down the ram?

No there isn't, nor would it be a good idea.

If one looks up the requirements, buys and installs the correct ram, the problem will be resolved.

Return it and buy the G.Skill DDR3 PC3-10600 1333 MHz RAM. Problem solved.
