I just bought a mac book pro with 2gigs of ram. I am thinking that 2 gigs it too little and I was wondering whether I should buy 2 extra gigs from apple or from crucial which is 200bucks cheaper? is there a difference between apple ram and crucial ram?

buy Crucial Ram.

Not sure what ram apple use, last time i checked i think it was Samsung or something.

The reason Apple's RAM is so much more expensive is because they aren't 'about' selling RAM. They try to discourage purchasing from them by charging from them.

TEG

FRys has 4gbs of crucial ram on sale 84.99 with 20 dollar rebate for 64.99 after rebate

I bought 4GB from OWC for $104 incl 2 day Fedex delivery. I bought 2GB for my PB from them a year ago and all is well. Plus they have a lifetime guarantee! No issues so far with my C2D memory.

WOW! they told you that?
all the while i thought it's just about PROFIT!

their battery costs more compared to 3rd party batteries.
so APPLE is discouraging the consumers to buy from them as well?

oh wait! the MBP is moe costly than a PC with the same specs
does this mean they're discouraging people from buying a laptop from apple?

i can go on you know...

up to now, i'm super amazed how people can make excuses for APPLE..
even though any one in his right mind can see this as a business strategy.
:D

Crucial Ram hands down, I have 4gb in my mac, no problems with it at all.

i bought 2x2GB G-link sticks from NewEgg after reading some of the positive reviews from newegg and MR. About 10 minutes after I installed them, I got the kernal panic screen. That was my first time experiencing the "slowly descending dark gray screen of death (SDDGoD)". It then happened 2 more times in the span of 2 hours. After reading the forums, I took them out and put them back in.. swap places.. zap the PRAM.. all that good stuff.. and it just happened again 5 minutes ago. I gave up.. so i put Apple's RAMs back in. I reqested an RMA from newegg and found out they are charging me $15 for RESTOCKING FEE! is that normal?? I think thats ridiculous cause not only did they gave me crappy stuff, now they're charging me to put it back! Calling them tomorrow to get it all sort out. After I get my money back, Im going with Crucial.

I bought Crucial 4GB 99.00 from Newegg works great with Penryn 2.4. Good name, can't complain.

I bought mine from Crucial.

About Apple's RAM pricing. It is very simple. They can likely get some bulk discount from the RAM manufacturer. What better way to increase profit margins than to repackage the RAM as their own and charge out the wazoo.

I have 4GB of RAM, except my computer almost never uses more than 2GB. I have friend who do lots of stuff on their computers with only 2GB and they have no issues.

I don't think it's necessary.

I bought 2 2GB Ram sticks from Crucial for my new Penryn MBP 2.4....for $109.00 I installed them yesterday....working great no issues..I did notice that on one side they said Crucial but on other they said Samsung...not bad I guess since apple uses Samsung alot...ones I took out were Naya or something like that.

good memory, with a lifetime warranty. If it dies anytime they will give you a new stick pretty much. I just bought the 4gig patriot memory from fry's, very good deal, especially if you live in a state with no fry's. I live in texas, so they charged me sales tax.

That's one heck of a deal! I have a local Fry's and may pick up a set for my mini.

I ordered 4GB Adata for it from newegg, but they screwed up and sent me 2 - 1GB chips instead!!

Im going to buy the crucial ram because its a lot cheaper and it seems to work good. Thanks for all the info.
